Dear Friends, When I was a little girl growing up in Carmel in the 60s and 70s, my family farmed land adjacent to a family that also farmed named Hensel. We later moved from that farm to a new neighborhood where a nice family named Wilson lived across the street from us and a family named Hope lived through our backyard. I attended Carmel Elementary School where there was a teacher named Luzader. I played with friends named Gest in the neighborhood. I as in marching band in high school with more than one Beck. I graduated from high school with a classmate and friend named Huckleberry. My sister and her husband lived across the street from a great family named Bubna. In school, a future brother-inlaw of mine had a crush on a cute blonde girl named Geib. As an adult, I lived on Ash Drive for 15 years — 10 of those a few houses down from a family called Stidham. My best friend’s maiden name was Secrest and she was married at Carmel Christian Church in 1979 when it was the four buildings one plot west of where it sits today. In December of 2008, I answered a Craigslist advertisement on the internet for a Church Administrator at Carmel Christian Church. As soon as I read the ad, I said to myself, “That’s me!” I applied, interviewed, and began my service to CCC in January of 2009. In those three and half years since, I reconnected — in one fashion or another — with all of those names above and, along the way, new names were added to my list: Lewis, Swain, Pyatt, Mayes, Crume, Osler, Smith, Carfagna and more. My connection to Carmel Christian Church began long before I worked here, grew stronger while I was here, and will last long after. As my service to CCC comes to a close on June 28, I am grateful to God for putting me exactly where I was needed in 2009. Not only did he know that you needed ME, he knew that I needed YOU. Thank you for the love, laughter and wonderful memories that I will carry with me and cherish for the rest of my life. I wish Carmel Christian Church the very best in the future and I pray that God bless each and every one of you every day. With love and gratitude, Deb
